How long does Gemini keep my chats and agent tasks?
Gemini keeps your chats, and Gemini Spark's tasks and schedules, in Gemini Apps Activity, which Google auto-deletes after 18 months unless you change it to 3 or 36 months or never. With Keep Activity off they are kept for up to 72 hours. On a work or school account the administrator sets this (3, 18 or 36 months, or off). Keep a copy with Google Takeout: choose Gemini, and Gemini Apps under My Activity.
Changed recently: Google's agent is now Gemini Spark (its help page, formerly "Gemini Agent"); it needs Google AI Pro or Ultra, a personal account and Keep Activity on.[1]
Changed recently: Gems go away on personal accounts from November 2026 and become skills; save any knowledge files you added to a Gem first.[2]
Where your Gemini history lives
- Chats: gemini.google.com › Settings & help › Activity, or myactivity.google.com/product/gemini ("Gemini Apps Activity").[3]
- Spark: running tasks under Recent Tasks; schedules on the Schedules page (Ongoing, Paused, Completed) and in each task's thread.[1]
- Turning Spark off deletes its remote browser and computer data but not past tasks, schedules or threads.[1]

How to keep a copy
- At takeout.google.com choose Deselect all, then tick Gemini (your Gems).[8]
- Tick My Activity, open "All activity data included", Deselect all, and choose Gemini Apps (chats, generated media and uploads).[8]
- Choose delivery (an emailed link valid 7 days, or Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Box), .zip or .tgz, once or recurring. It takes hours to days.[8]
- On a work or school account the admin controls Takeout; the admin's Data Export includes every prompt and response.[9]
Keep the Takeout archive unpacked and dated:

agentreceipt does not read a Takeout archive: Gemini runs in Google's cloud and keeps no log on your computer. It reads the agents that do, Claude Cowork, Claude Code and Codex, and Zapier, Make or n8n exports.
npx --allow-git=root github:agentwares/agentreceipt reads Claude Cowork's audit.jsonl files, Claude Code and Codex session logs, and any Zapier, Make or n8n export you name, on your computer, and prints the week by folder or project: sends, writes, deletes, approvals, failures, tokens and cost. A field a log does not hold reads "not recorded". No account, no network request, no LLM; it sends nothing. --pdf receipt.pdf writes a local, unsigned copy. Free and MIT licensed.
Keep a signed record that survives a downgrade or a shutdown — Solo $19/mo, Team $99/mo, or $29 once at a shutdown.
Not built yet. It would keep a copy of what your agents did outside the vendor, signed so a client or a boss can check it was not edited, and still there after a plan ends or a vendor closes: names, times and counts, never the text of your messages or files. If you would pay for it, say so with one click. The click is counted; nothing else is sent or stored.
