How long does ChatGPT keep my agent and Work history?

ChatGPT keeps your chats, including agent-mode runs and ChatGPT Work chats, in your account until you delete them; a deleted chat is erased within 30 days, and its agent screenshots within 90. A Business workspace that is permanently deleted takes every conversation with it, and Business and Enterprise members cannot export their own chats. Keep a copy with Settings › Data controls › Export data, and download it within 24 hours of the email.

Changed recently: Agent mode was replaced by ChatGPT Work and its cloud browser in August 2026, according to OpenAI support on its community forum (7 Sep 2026). Agent-mode chats stay in your history like any chat.^[1]

Where your ChatGPT history lives

Every chat, agent-mode runs included, is an ordinary conversation in your history.^[2]
ChatGPT Work chats appear with your other chats under Recents.^[3]
Scheduled tasks are listed under Scheduled; deleting a task there does not delete its chat.^[4]
Workspace agents (Business, Enterprise, Edu) show only run counts in Agent Analytics; no per-run history is documented.^[5]

How to keep a copy

Open your profile menu › Settings › Data controls › Export data, then Export and Confirm export.^[13]
The link arrives by email (it can take up to 7 days) and expires 24 hours after it arrives.^[13]
The ZIP holds your chat history in conversations.json (larger exports split it into numbered files).^[14]
On Business, Enterprise and ChatGPT for Healthcare the export is not available to members: ask the workspace owner.^[13]

Keep the ZIP somewhere it will not be cleaned up, unpacked and dated:

Keep a signed record that survives a downgrade or a shutdown — Solo $19/mo, Team $99/mo, or $29 once at a shutdown.

Not built yet. It would keep a copy of what your agents did outside the vendor, signed so a client or a boss can check it was not edited, and still there after a plan ends or a vendor closes: names, times and counts, never the text of your messages or files. If you would pay for it, say so with one click. The click is counted; nothing else is sent or stored.
