actions/upload-artifact v3 deprecated: failing since 30 Jan 2025

upload-artifact and download-artifact v1 to v3: stopped working 30 Jan 2025, 617 days ago. Jobs using actions/upload-artifact or actions/download-artifact v1, v2 or v3 fail on github.com. Pages deployments built on them (upload-pages-artifact before v3, deploy-pages before v4) fail too. GitHub Enterprise Server is not affected. The fix: Use actions/upload-artifact@v6 and actions/download-artifact@v7 (v4 works, on Node 20 forced onto 24); for Pages, upload-pages-artifact@v5 and deploy-pages@v5. Check your workflows now, with nothing to install: grep -rnE "actions/upload-artifact(/[a-z-]+)?@v?(1|2|3)\b|actions/download-artifact(/[a-z-]+)?@v?(1|2|3)\b|actions/upload-pages-artifact(/[a-z-]+)?@v?(1|2)\b|actions/deploy-pages(/[a-z-]+)?@v?(1|2|3)\b" .github

$ grep -rnE "actions/upload-artifact(/[a-z-]+)?@v?(1|2|3)\b|actions/download-artifact(/[a-z-]+)?@v?(1|2|3)\b|actions/upload-pages-artifact(/[a-z-]+)?@v?(1|2)\b|actions/deploy-pages(/[a-z-]+)?@v?(1|2|3)\b" .github

Run it from the repository root; it needs nothing installed and sends nothing anywhere. It finds each name as written in your workflow files; a value set in another file and passed in (a matrix from JSON, a reusable workflow's input) needs a look of its own. The fix is in the first paragraph above. The dates come from this data.

It would re-read your workflows every day and email you a week and a day before each brownout or removal that would hit them, with no change to your repo. agentcheck's free hourly watch covers MCP servers only today.
